As an artist, I focus on the impact of American societal norms on the lives of LGBT+ individuals and the LGBT+ community as a whole. This issue has taken on a new importance to me in light of the Trump administration’s anti-LGBT+ legislation. As a member of the LGBT+ community in America, many aspects of my identity and existence are directly at odds with societal norms. I use queer models of various ages, races, and genders to reflect the fears and anxieties that come with living under a homophobic and transphobic regime. I also portray the LGBT+ individuals as they are: humans.

I portray the models in a range of emotional states from distress, to resignation, to joy, showing that they’re also people who love, laugh, and experience life like anyone else. I utilize an intersectional approach by juxtaposing queer identity and American sociocultural norms.
